Uniform & Shopping List
Here is what your Scout needs, organized by grade. Everything is available at the local Scout Shop in Bethesda or online at scoutshop.org. Links below go straight to each item.
What every Scout needs
Our approach: participation first. Getting your Scout into a uniform shirt and having fun matters more to us than a head-to-toe official uniform, especially for younger Scouts. Official pants, shorts, and socks are optional. Scouts may wear plain navy blue pants or shorts, or clean, neat dark blue jeans. If cost is ever a barrier, please see our Financial Assistance page. - Uniform shirt (see your rank below for which shirt)
- Cub Scout Belt
- National Capital Area Council shoulder patch (worn on the left shoulder)
- Pack 169 numeral patches — $6 per set, available for pickup at a pack meeting. Just ask any leader.
Pants, shorts, and socks are optional (see above). Buy shirts a size up if you can. Scouts wear them for a couple of years.

5th Grade
