Pack 169 Fees and Payments
There are two separate costs to join Pack 169. The Pack dues, which we collect, and the national and council registration fees, which are paid to Scouting America during registration.
1. Pack Dues (paid to Pack 169)
To sustain the program, we collect $150 for the first Scout, or $125 each for families with multiple Scouts in the Pack. This fee goes toward campouts, food, T-shirts, activities, facility rentals, Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, awards, patches, and all other expenses. Sometimes the Pack offers activities like the USS Constellation campout that require an additional fee if we cannot cover it with the dues.

2. National and Council Registration Fees (paid to Scouting America)
When you register through BeAScout.org, Scouting America and the National Capital Area Council charge fees for the broader program. These are not managed by the Pack. They are paid during registration. For a new Cub Scout, the fees are:
- BSA Youth Registration: $85.00 per year
- National Capital Area Council fee: $80.00
- Scout Life magazine (optional): $15.00
- Online payment processing fee: 3% of the total
That comes to about $170 to register, or about $185 if you choose the Scout Life magazine.
What it costs to start
A new Scout’s first year is about $170 in registration plus $150 in Pack dues, for a total of about $320. Families with more than one Scout pay $125 in Pack dues for each additional child.
New Scouts: To register with the Pack for the first time, go to BeAScout.org. Payment is made as part of the registration process.
Current Scouts: When it is time to re-register, there will be a note under the Scout’s profile picture in Scoutbook that says “Eligible to Renew.” Click that link and it will guide you through the process. Scoutbook is at:
